When I started this...
it was because I like sql server a ton, but didn't like the tools that were available to work with it. When you compare Query Analyzer (QA) and Enterprise Manager (EM) to what we had in Visual Studio they were sorely lacking.
I thought I could help and that is how T-SQLEditPro (TEP) came about. People liked it and still do. I have been thinking and designing and planning and wanting to rewrite it and improve it for some time now. The thing in the back of my mind that kept me from doing it was not wanting to spend a year or so writing an app that some Russian cracker was going to make it easy for people to steal. I know it's not realistic to compare downloads before the crack to after, but if I cut the number of downloads in half after the crack, and apply the same percentage of buyers to downloads to that, the crack still cost my family and I somewhere in the neighborhood of $20,000 or so. I never meant to get rich, but I do feel that people who do work deserve to be paid.
There is still need for a tool like TEP and the more I think of it the more I am convinced that I shouldn't let it die. That said, the what and when details will have to be left for later.
So what is going to happen here you ask? Well, I am going to see if we can make this site a resource for all of us. I am planning a forum and articles or a blog or both. Perhaps a code library as well. You may have guessed that this is pretty much a one man show and a labor of love more than anything else. I have to husband my time among a LOT of different things. If you have suggestions please email me at emerkel at t-sql dot com and let me know what you have in mind. I am all ears.
Finally, I also have another tool in mind to build, as usual, they start with what I would like to have at my work now, and I don't think anything like this exists. When I get it ready you will know.
Thanks
Eddie
